Broadcast script template: radio and TV news scripts with read times
Written stories do not read well aloud. The broadcast template writes for the ear: short sentences, present tense, names before titles, and a script timed to your slot.
How it works
Open Broadcast Script in your workspace and fill in what you know. Rough notes are fine; required fields are marked.
| You give | Example |
|---|---|
| Story in one sentence | Government announces free healthcare policy starting July |
| Key facts (3-4 points) | Covers 2 million people, starts July, $15 million budget |
| Anchor name (optional) | Amina Yusuf (optional) |
| Duration (seconds) (optional) | 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 |
| Medium (optional) | Radio, TV, Podcast |
Press Write and the draft appears as it is written. Edit it, then save it, translate it, turn it into a script or social posts, or send it to your editor.
Writing for radio and TV
- Set the duration: 30 seconds is about 75 words read aloud.
- Add the anchor’s name to get natural handovers.
- Generate a spoken version with Byline Voice to hear how it sounds before air.
Accuracy first
Byline writes only from the facts you give it. It never invents quotes, sources or figures, and when something important is missing it marks the gap, like [CHECK: name of the spokesperson], for you to fill. You check every fact before publishing.
