About Byline
Byline is an AI writing workspace built for journalists, editors and broadcasters. It was started in Africa, where reporters often file from the field on a phone, against tight deadlines and with small teams, and it is built for newsrooms everywhere.
Why we built it
General AI chat tools are not made for journalism. They invent quotes, blur sources and ignore house style. Byline starts from how newsrooms work: structured templates that ask what an editor would ask, a choice of AI models, translation that keeps names and quotes intact, and an editor’s approval before anything is published.
What we believe
- The reporter stays the reporter. Byline drafts; journalists verify, decide and sign their work.
- Facts come from people, not models. Byline writes only from the facts it is given and marks gaps instead of filling them.
- Every audience deserves the story in its own language.
- Tools should work where journalists work: on the web, in the app and on WhatsApp, on slow connections too.
